Hawkins on Penn State scandal: Repair an irresponsible system

“This scandal has shown the N.C.A.A. that it needs to address the culture of protection and secrecy that prevails in college athletics,” writes Billy Hawkins, associate professor and coordinator of UGA’s sport management program, about the Penn State University scandal involving former coach Jerry Sandusky in the “Room for Debate” op/ed feature in the July 16 New York Times.

Hawkins was one of several sportsĀ  and legal experts from across the nation selected to debate the topic, “Should the N.C.A.A. Punish Penn State?”
