University of Georgia College of Education professor Jennifer Graff was a co-author of an article published in the journal, Reading Psychology, which recently received the 2012 Albert J. Harris Award from the International Reading Association.
The award recognizes an article or monograph that makes an outstanding contribution to the understanding, prevention or assessment of reading or learning disabilities.
“Addressing Summer Reading Setback Among Economically Disadvantaged Elementary Students,” was published in September 2010. The article examined whether providing summer reading books to economically disadvantaged first- and second-grade students for three consecutive summers improved reading achievement.
Graff, an assistant professor in the department of language and literacy education, co-wrote the article with: Richard L. Allington and Anne McGill-Franzen, University of Tennessee; Gregory Camilli, University of Colorado; Lunetta Williams, University of North Florida; Jacqueline Zeig, PCG Education of Portsmouth, N.H.; Courtney Zmach, Collier County Public Schools, Naples, Fla.; and Rhonda Nowak, University of Hawaii.
