Joanna (Jo) Fazio, a junior in recreation and leisure studies, has been named the University of Georgia College of Education’s recipient of the 2012 Rotaract Award from the UGA Alumni Association.
Fazio, of Snellville, was one of 16 undergraduate students selected from colleges and schools across campus for the award recognizing their scholarship and university/community service.
She is involved in many different projects and organizations on campus. She is president of the Recreation and Leisure Studies Student Association and executive director of Shop with a Bulldawg, an organization whose mission is to bring joy to children, hope to families and the holidays to Athens.
“By partnering with Athens-Clarke County Schools, last year we took 210 children and 420 mentors shopping at Target for a special day,” she said.
Fazio expects to graduate in December 2012 and looks forward to a future as a sports events coordinator.
