COE to host equating workshop for grad students, education professionals June 4-8

The University of Georgia’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Education & Human Development and the College of Education Research Office are collaborating to present an Equating Workshop June 4-8 at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center at the Georgia Center.
The Equating workshop will feature in-depth instruction in the theory and practice of equating, according to selective chapters in Test Equating, Scaling, and Linking: Methods and Practices (Springer-Verlag, 2nd Edition, 2004), which discusses the most frequently used equating methodologies and covering many of the practical issues involved.. Participants will also gain experience with computer programs for equating.
The workshop is suitable for advanced graduate students in measurements; faculty who plan to teach equating; employees of state departments of education, testing companies, licensure and certification organizations, and others who want relatively in-depth training in equating. It is assumed that participants have knowledge at the level of intermediate statistics and measurement.

Lee
Robert Brennan and Won-Chan Lee, both professors at the University of Iowa, will lead the workshop. Brennan is the E. F. Lindquist Chair of Measurement and Testing in the College of Education and director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Measurement and Assessment (CASMA). He was director of the Iowa Testing Programs at UI from 1994-2002. Lee is an associate professor of physiological and qualitative foundations and the associate director of CASMA. Their research interests include equating, linking, scaling; and classical test theory.
The registration deadline is May 21 and costs $1,400 per participant. Registration includes workshop materials, a copy of the book, Test Equating, Scaling, and Linking, an opening reception, dinner on Wednesday, refreshment breaks, lunch and parking passes each day. A laptop computer is required to participate in this workshop.
