The University of Georgia College of Education’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Education & Human Development will host the Single Subject Research Methodology in Behavioral Sciences Workshop for educators and therapists at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Conference Center on Thursday, April 5.

The one-day workshop will focus on the use of single subject research designs in answering applied research questions related to educational and clinical practices. Educators and therapists will be encouraged to view themselves as “science-practitioners” in which they assume an active role in applied research efforts in order to assess the ecological validity of research findings.

Participants will also discuss baseline logic, the importance of direct and repeated measurement, visual analysis of graphed data, research designs and the importance of systematic replication in regards to extending the overview of any single research investigation.

Gast

Board Certified Behavior Analysts can earn six Type 2 Continuing Education credits by attending the workshop.

The workshop is based on the book, Single Subject Research Methodology in Behavioral Sciences, written by David L. Gast, a professor of special education in UGA’s College of Education, who will be the instructor for the workshop.

Gast has written over 100 refereed publications in special education and psychology journals. His current research focuses on the design of errorless instructional programs and strategies for facilitation observational and incidental learning by children with autism during small group instruction.

Ayres

Kevin Ayres, an assistant professor of special education and a doctoral-level Board Certified  Behavioral Analyst, will also be instructing the workshop. Ayres’ research focuses on behavioral applications of technology to improve learning outcomes for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He is on the editorial boards of the journal, Remedial and Special Education as well as The Journal of Special Education Technology.

Registration costs $175 and ends March 22. The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.
