University of Georgia College of Education student Alexander Kappus has been selected as one of eight graduate students in the country to receive a Graduate Association Program Scholarship from the National Association of Student Personnel Administration.

The scholarship includes a complimentary registration to the 2012 NASPA Annual Conference and hotel accommodations from March 10-14 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Kappus is a second-year master’s student in the college student affairs administration program in the department of counseling and human development. He is the outgoing president of the UGA Student Personnel Association. Kappus also holds an assistantship in the Department of University Housing as a graduate resident in Creswell Hall. After graduation in May 2012, he plans to work in college administration and later work toward a Ph.D. in educational policy for higher education.

As part of his recognition, Kappus will make two presentations and contribute to the conference’s annual blog. “I am proud to represent my program here at UGA. This scholarship would not have been possible without the support of the faculty in my program,” he said.

Kappus received his bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in Chinese language from Emory University in 2010.

NASPA, founded in 1919, is the leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession. The association contains more than 12, 000 members in all 50 states, 29 countries and 8 U.S. Territories.
