College of Education graduate student Katherine Raczynski has been named a 2011 David Watts Scholar by the Southern Regional Association of Teacher Educators to recognize her involvement and scholarship in teacher education.

Raczynski is a doctoral student in the research, evaluation, measurement and statistics program in the department of educational psychology and instructional technology. She works as a research assistant with Dean Andy Horne and Associate Dean for Research Noël Gregg.

Raczynski’s work with Dean Horne is focused on adolescent social development, particularly enhancing school climate and preventing bullying. An important aspect of her work is speaking to educators in the field and pre-service teachers on bullying prevention.

She also works with Gregg on the Data for Improved Learning and Instruction initiative. DILI is a collaborative network of scholars and school leaders in Northeast Georgia that provides professional development on how to understand, interpret and apply student data to improve learning and instruction.

Raczynski’s work will be recognized at the annual SRATE Conference during an awards luncheon in Savannah on October 28. The award includes a monetary stipend and a certificate.

Raczynski will also participate in a roundtable discussion at the SRATE Conference along with other UGA College of Education faculty members on the topic of “Collaborative Endeavors to Strengthen Educator Preparation.”

Raczynski expects to graduate in May 2012.
