COE honors Mary Frances Early with reception

College of Education alumna Mary Frances Early (MEd ’62, EdS ’67), the first African American to graduate from UGA, was honored by the COE with a reception at J.J. Harris Elementary School on Feb. 14. See links to stories, photos and video inside.

University of Georgia College of Education alumna Mary Frances Early (MEd ’62, EdS ’67), the first African American to graduate from UGA, delivered the keynote address at the annual Martin Luther King Breakfast hosted by UGA and Athens-Clarke County on February 14 as part of  a month-long series of events marking the 50th anniversary of desegregation at UGA.

Later that day, Ms. Early was honored with a reception hosted by the UGA College of Education at J.J. Harris Elementary School in Athens. Prior to that event, Ms. Early was invited to talk to students at the school about her experience and their opportunities.
