National Association of Industrial and
Technical Teacher Educators
Executive Committee Quarterly Telemeeting
Thursday, May 1, 1997
1:00 pm EST
Presiding: Sam Stern, President
Participating: Mike Dyrenfurth, Jeff Flesher, Dennis Herschbach,
Roger Hill, Jim Lorenz, Sam Stern
1.0 Secretary's Report...........Roger Hill
-
Minutes for meetings at AVA 1996 and the February telemeeting were distributed
electronically and have been published in the NAITTE News and Views as
well as on the World Wide Web site.
-
Current officer lists and copies of the Administrative Handbook were
also distributed electronically.
-
Work on a new brochure has begun, but that is not completed yet. Arrangements
were earlier made for Greg Petty to distribute additional copies of the
existing version to those attending the satellite meetings. The new brochure
should be ready sometime this summer or early fall.
2.0 Membership Update..........Jim Lorenz
-
Jim Lorenz reported that current members numbered 308 as of March 1.
Right now membership stands at about 320 members.
-
Stationary is needed as Jim’s supply is running low. Roger was asked
to check with Greg to get supply of stationary reestablished for use by
officers.
-
Question was also asked about returns from journal mailings. Jim will
check with Jim Gregson on that.
3.0 Satellite Meetings & AVA Conference Planning..........Mike Dyrenfurth
-
A small satellite meeting was held at the annual International Technology
Education Association (ITEA) conference in Tampa with four persons attending.
These meetings should be continued, but we need to invite Council on Technology
Teacher Education (CTTE) executives next time and efforts made to select
a suitable time so they would attend.
-
AVA begins this year on Wednesday, December 10, 1997. Plans now are
for the NAITTE Executive Committee to meet from 3-5 p.m. that Wednesday
afternoon. This first meeting would be an opportunity for review of previous
activities and old business.
-
Typically an Executive Meeting is held at the end of the conference
to address new business. This will be scheduled for Sunday, December 14,
1997, from 10-1.
-
The NAITTE Breakfast will be held on Saturday, December 13, 1997 at
7 a.m. Nevin Frantz is in charge of planning for that. The hotel being
used for that is the Grand.
-
The opening general session for NAITTE is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
Details are still being finalized.
-
Joan Friedenberg has been contacted and plans for the research session
are progressing well.
3.7 Program proposals are still needed for other NAITTE sessions.
4.0 Treasurer’s Report..........Jeff Flesher
-
A mid-year fiscal report was faxed to officers for review. The financial
condition of the organization is healthy at this time.
-
In discussing the various sections of the report, Sam requested that
the cost of the teleconferences be broken out as a separate item in the
budget.
-
Sam also suggested consideration of a cost saving method of handling
quarterly Executive Committee business by use of email over a preset two-week
period. A similar system has been successfully implemented by the Academy
of Human Resource Development.
-
Jeff requested that correspondence to him be directed to his home address
for his greater convenience. That address is 1818 Douglas Avenue; Ames,
Iowa 50010. The phone there is (515) 232-0655.
5.0 Trustee Report – Elections...........Dennis Herschbach
-
The call for nominations just went out in the recent newsletter. Encouragement
is being given for submission of names of candidates for President-Elect,
Vice President for Technical Education, Vice-President for Industrial and
Military Training, Secretary, and Trustee. Sam will move into the Trustee/Past
President position and someone will be elected to replace Frank in the
capacity of Trustee.
-
Nominations should be sent to Dennis by email, telephone, or mail. He
hopes to have the slate identified by the end of June. The tradition has
been to have at least two candidates for each open position.
-
Honorary lifetime members and nominations for that were discussed. New
awards of this honor are limited by the 1% clause in the Handbook, but
Sam will ask Frank to review that section for future consideration, perhaps
adjusting the limitation so that this honor could again be given.
6.0 Satellite Meeting at HROD Conference..........Sam Stern
-
Another satellite meeting held this year took place at the annual Academy
of Human Resource Development (AHRD) Conference in Atlanta. Four persons
attended this breakfast meeting, including two non-members. Interest was
particularly keen about the Journal of Industrial Teacher Education (JITE).
6.2 Sam recommended that a NAITTE satellite meeting be included as a
part of the Academy conference in the future, with some substantive topic
for the session that would be of interest to both NAITTE members as well
as to AHRD members.
7.0 Meeting adjourned at 1:44 pm EST.
Respectfully submitted,
Roger B. Hill
