NAITTE Board Minutes

                    National Association of Industrial
                      and Technical Teacher Educators
                 Executive Committee Quarterly Telemeeting
                        Thursday, February 12, 1997
                                1:00 pm EST

Presiding:     Sam Stern, President

Participating: Rod Custer, Mike Dyrenfurth, Jeff Flesher, Nevin
Frantz, Roger Hill, Ted Lewis, Jim Lorenz, Gregory
               Petty, Sam Stern

1.0  Secretary's Report. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Roger Hill

1.1  Minutes were previously sent for Executive Meetings and
Breakfast Meeting at 1996 AVA and one correction was
noted where Frank Pratzner was listed as the person who
would chair the Awards Committee.  Motion to approve
the minutes was made by Nevin Frantz, second by Mike
          Dyrenfurth, and motion passed.

1.2  Corrections to officer list were reported and a new
version of that will be electronically distributed.

1.3  Final revisions have been completed for the
Administrative Handbook.  Plans for distribution to
officers were discussed and it was decided that it will
be sent to the officers electronically as an attached
document.  It will be sent in WordPerfect and Microsoft
Word formats and then in hard copy form to anyone who
          requests that.

2.0  Membership Report . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jim Lorenz

2.1  Jim Lorenz reported that current members number 290.
This reflects a fairly stable figure.

2.2  When applications for membership are coming through
from the NAITTE home page on the WWW, checks are
usually not forthcoming without some follow-up
correspondence.  Recommendation was made to provide
more prominent instructions to send a check for
          membership dues.

3.0  Treasurers Report . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jeff Flesher

3.1  No problems or concerns were reported with respect to
finances.  Tax paperwork is now being processed.
Follow-up is needed to change the address for checking
account statements from Nevin to Jeff.

4.0  Publications Report . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Rod Custer

4.1  Issue 2 of volume 34 of the JITE is in the process of
being delivered.  Issue 3 of volume 34 is being
          prepared.

4.2  A request has gone out to encourage graduate students
to begin participating in the review process, with
feedback and guidance provided by professional members
who are part of the review team.

4.3  Response to the requests sent to libraries for renewal
of subscriptions has been less than desired.  Library
subscriptions on record temporarily decreased from 343
to 97 when records were reviewed and corrected.  An
error in procedures allowed shipment of journals to
continue to some libraries even though subscriptions
had not been renewed.  Some renewals have been
received, but the printing order for the current issue
of the journal was reduced to 150 over the number
          needed for member copies.

4.4  A suggestion was made that fiscal cycle timing might be
an issue for some libraries.  Also Ted Lewis mentioned
that brokers or subscription services had been a major
source of subscriptions for the JVER he was editor of,
and he will send information about those to Rod.

4.5  Rod indicated that he would follow-up with the process
of encouraging library subscriptions and also will
coordinate efforts to have graduate students involved
with the review process with Susan Olson.

4.6  Everyone was encouraged to continue sending manuscripts
and to also consider "at issue" and "book review"
articles as those are always in short supply.

5.0  Satellite Meetings. . . . . . . . .Greg Petty, Roger Hill, & Ted Lewis

5.1  Arrangements have been made for a satellite breakfast
meeting to take place at the Academy of Human Resource
Development conference in Atlanta on Friday, March 7,
from 7:00-8:15 am.  The agenda will include a general
overview of NAITTE activities, some comment about goals
and purpose, and information about the JITE.  Dick
Swanson and Ed Holton have been supportive of
developing possible ties between NAITTE and the AHRD.

5.2  Ted Lewis has worked to plan a NAITTE activity to take
place at the ITEA Conference in Tampa.  Plans were
established to have a supper meeting on Sunday evening,
March 23rd, from 5:30-7:00 pm.  A location will need to
be chosen, and efforts will be made to publicize this
          event.

6.0  Brochure. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Roger Hill

6.1  A revised brochure is being prepared and any suggested
revisions should be sent to Roger Hill.  Action during
the last Executive Meeting at AVA approved funding of
          this project.

6.2  Greg Petty still has some copies of the old brochure
and will send some of those to persons who need it.
Nevin Frantz and Mike Dyrenfurth requested
          approximately 200 copies each.

7.0  Planning for 1997 AVA Convention. . . . . . . . . . . Mike Dyrenfurth

7.1  Ned Swartz, program chair for Technical Education, has
agreed to work with NAITTE for programming purposes.  A
draft of the program is not yet available.

7.2  A decision is needed concerning a lead-off topic for
the opening general session.  Changes in the Research
Symposium would impact the program in that only one
slot will be needed for research presentations.

7.3  Several suggestions were considered for the opening
NAITTE session and the topic chosen was related to an
international study of competitiveness.  Nevin Frantz
indicated that the NAITTE Breakfast speaker would
          probably address national skills standards.

7.4  The NAITTE program this year will be reduced somewhat
to maximize participation and attendance.  Diversity
and inclusiveness will be stressed.  All VP's were
encouraged to submit a proposal for a session which
would be of special interest to their constituents.

8.0  T & I Standards Project . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Nevin Frantz

8.1  Progress continues on developing strategies for
implementing the standards.  Surveys and interviews
with leaders in the field are being conducted as a part
          of this process.

9.0  Meeting adjourned at 1:55 pm EST.

Respectfully submitted,

Roger B. Hill
Secretary
