General Information about the Undergraduate / Bachelor's Degree Programs

Have a BS in a science area already and just want certification?
  • Irregular undergraduate: must go through undergraduate admissions and then complete necessary coursework for certification
  • Graduate student: must go through graduate admissions
    • non-degree seeking: completes necessary coursework for certification
    • degree seeking: completes necessary coursework for certification AND a graduate degree (Master's [see below], Specialist's, Doctoral)

Courses Required for Secondary (7-12) Science Certification

Undergraduate Major Education - The Department has an academic major in biology education, chemistry education, earth science
education, and physics education (B.S. Science Education). The major requires a significant amount of coursework in the sciences (roughly equivalent to a major in one of the sciences) and several courses in science education.

A Typical Program
There will be two cohorts of students proceeding through the program per year. The courses listed in each block must be taken together. Block one must be taken prior to block two. The first cohort will take the block one courses in fall semester and block two courses in spring. The second cohort of each year will take block one course in spring semester and block two courses in the following fall.
