Mathematics Education

Bachelor of Science in Education

The Bachelor of Science in Education program is designed to prepare candidates for grade 7-12 secondary mathematics teaching. The student must meet all general degree requirements set by the University, such as the core program, history requirement, environmental studies, U. S. and Georgia constitution, and Regent's examinations. The program includes at least 2 courses in calculus and 9-10 additional teaching field courses (29 hours; MATH, STAT, or EMAT) at the upper division level that includes at least one course in each of

  • geometry
  • linear algebra
  • higher algebra
  • instructional computing
  • statistics
  • introduction to higher mathematics

The professional education courses include three general courses in educational psychology, introduction to education, and the nature of exceptional children. The mathematics education sequence over a period of four semesters includes courses and practica for mathematics curricula, mathematics instruction, student teaching, and a post-student teaching seminar.

The student should consult each semester with their Mathematics Education faculty advisor to construct and carry forward a program of study.
