Master of Arts in Reading Education (M.A.):

The program in Reading Education at The University of Georgia has a rich history and tradition of producing reading education leaders and scholars at the local, state, regional, and national levels. Currently with our nationally and internationally recognized full-time faculty and diverse cadre of residential doctoral and advanced-degree students, the department is able to provide challenging, cutting edge program of study to prepare students for responsible positions as school-based leaders, professors, or researchers. As we enter the early years of a new century, the Department is dedicated to rich explorations in areas such as reading and technology; multiculturalism; early, primary, and adolescent reading; gender studies; and inquiry-based issues of learning

M.A.

The M.A. degree is a 30-hour minimum, thesis, non-certification program emphasizing research and theory designed primarily for students who are interested in advanced knowledge about literacy and are not certified teachers. State certification is not provided in this program. A thesis is required for the M.A. degree but not for the M.Ed.

Admission Guidelines:

undergraduate GPA of 2.6, Graduate Records Exam (GRE) score of 850 (with 400 minimum in Verbal and Quantitative each), 3 letters of recommendation, statement of purpose.

Reading Education--Applications are reviewed when files are complete from September 1 through April 1. (Applications received during the summer will be reviewed after September 1.)
