ESOL Endorsement

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about the courses:

Q. Are all ESOL courses offered every semester?

A. Recent cuts in our budget and instructors have affected the number of endorsement courses we are able to offer. Please check the website frequently for current and future course offerings and plan ahead.

Q. Do I have to take all three endorsement courses at once?

A. No. You can enroll in one or more at a time.

Q. Do the ESOL endorsement courses have to be taken in a sequence?

A. No. They can be taken in any order.

Q. Can I substitute a course taken at another university for an ESOL course taken at UGA?

A. Recent changes in state and national certification standards for TESOL may affect the sequence and number of courses that are offered by each program. While you may be able to substitute, it will probably be easier to take all three courses at the same institution.

Questions about admission:

Q. If I am not currently enrolled at UGA, what program should I apply to on the Graduate Admission Application?

A. You will apply to the non-degree (ND) program for ESOL/Teaching Additional Languages. The degree program code is 855N.

Q. Will I need to fill out an immunization form as part of my application before I can be considered for admission?

A. Yes. The form can be found at http://www.uhs.uga.edu/information/forms.html

Q. For the "Statement of Purpose" on the graduate application, what do I say?

A. Briefly state why you wish to take the ESOL endorsement courses for add-on certification.

Q. Is it possible to change my matriculation date PRIOR to being admitted?

A. Yes. You will need to contact Graduate Admissions (706-542-1739 or tdorsey@gradute.gradsch.uga.edu) to change your matriculation date. The request to change matriculation date must be made prior to the semester in which you plan to enroll. The deadline to make this request will be the "Phase II" registration date (see the university calendar to find this date). You may contact Graduate Admissions and change matriculation data one time without a fee penalty.

Q. Can I change my matriculation date AFTER I am admitted?

A. Changes in matriculation date can only be made by the Language Education department within ten days after the semester of matriculation begins. Please contact the graduate secretary (Ms. Becky Hendren, bhendren@uga.edu) to make a request.
