Minor in TESOL: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

Program of Study

The minor in teaching English to speakers of other languages consists of the following 15 semester credits of required and elective courses. NOTE: Courses applied towards the minor cannot be applied towards the major field of study.

one course in ESOL teaching methodology:

ELAN 5630 Teaching ESOL in P-12 settings
or
ELAN 4060 TESOL methods and materials

two courses in first and second language acquisition to include:

  1. ELAN 5730 First and second language acquisition and development

  2. and one elective chosen from the following courses in

English language, linguistics, or second language learning:
CMSD 4130 Language Science
CMSD/LING 4500 Study of Language Development
ENGL (LING) 3030 Introduction to the English language

two courses in sociocultural aspects of teaching and learning additional languages to include the following:
