What are ELAN 7768 and ELAN 7769?

UGA and Board of Regents' policies require that all new graduate teaching and laboratory assistants receive support for their instructional roles. ELAN 7768 and 7769 are designed specifically for international graduate students whose native language is not English and who wish to work as graduate teaching assistants or laboratory assistants. The courses are taught by faculty in the Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL) program in Language and Literacy Education.

Who must take ELAN 7768 and 7769?

Students with scores of 40 or below on the TSE/SPEAK test or 22 or below on the iBTOEFL/TAST Speaking section must complete successfully ELAN 7768 (3 credits). Students who have not taken the TSE/SPEAK, TAST, or iBTOEFL test are also required to enroll in ELAN 7768.

Students with scores of 45 on the TSE or SPEAK test or 23-25 on the TAST/iBTOEFL must complete successfully ELAN 7769 (3 credits).

Students who have already attained TSE/SPEAK or TAST/iBTOEFL scores that qualify them to serve as graduate teaching or laboratory assistants may wish to enroll in ELAN 7769 or 7769 to further improve their oral English and instructional communication skills.

Check with the Center for Teaching and Learning for more information about these courses.

Who administers the iBTOEFL test on campus?
