Teaching Additional LanguagesEd.S. in TESOL: Teaching English to Speakers of Other LanguagesProgram and Course Requirements Students will take a minimum of 10 courses (30 semester hours) beyond the master's degree, to include an applied project. Note: In looking at the number of courses required for each of the areas below, remember that number is for the combined master's and specialist's programs. For example, if you have taken 2 courses in social and cognitive factors during your master's program, you may not need to take more during your specialist's program. Teaching Field: English Linguistics and Literature (10 courses/30 semester hours minimum in master's plus Ed.S.; if you have 5 courses in master's, you need only 5 for Ed.S.) Courses may be taken, for example, from Language Education, Linguistics, Reading Education, English, Romance Languages, or Comparative Literature. Teaching Additional Languages: Theory and Practice (3 courses/9 semester hours minimum in master's plus Ed.S.) Social and Cognitive Factors in Learning (2 courses in master's plus Ed.S.) Courses may be taken, for example, from Language Education, African American Studies, Anthropology, Educational Foundations, Educational Psychology, Psychology, Sociology, Women's Studies, or Philosophy.
