Undergraduate Programs - Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When do I need to apply?
Most students apply by the 3rd Friday in January of the junior year. You should be prepared to start the senior year sequence (teaching methods and student teaching) the following fall semester.

Q: I am a Spanish, French, German, or Latin major and have just now decided that I want to teach. What are my options?
If you are not too far along in your degree or don’t mind putting off graduation for an extra year or so, you can apply to our undergraduate program and complete a dual degree. You still have to meet the deadline listed above. Or if you are almost or already done with your degree, you might consider pursuing the MAT in World Language Education. This program is designed for people who majored in a field they now wish to teach. It is approximately a two year program with T-4 certification being achieved after just one year.

Q: Can I choose where I student teach?
No. We take into account your preferences for placement, but we can make no guarantees that you will receive the placement you want.

Q: What if I don’t have a car?
We will try to facilitate car-pooling or a local placement, but students need to be prepared to arrange their own transportation.

Q: Can I work while I student teach?
No. Student teaching is a full-time job and the schedule is extremely demanding.

Q: How much does Foliotek cost?
The price for one year is $40. The price for two years is $59.
