Specialist Program - Reading, Writing, Children’s Literature & Digital Literacy Programs
Reading, Writing, Children’s Literature, and Digital Literacies (RWCLDL)
The Reading, Writing, Children’s Literature, and Digital Literacies (RWCLDL) focus area offers degree programs that prepare graduates to be teachers, leaders, and researchers in literacy education. Through a range of face-to-face, blended, and online courses, our nationally and internationally recognized faculty engages learners in critical dialogues that speak to the ever-changing landscape of culturally and linguistically diverse literacy classrooms. Graduates of our degree programs come away with deeper and more complex understandings of the ways . . .
- theory, research, and practice mutually inform each other
- technology and popular culture are changing how we read and create text
- literature exploration helps us to explore diverse cultures
- language is instrumental in creating who we are and how we relate to others
- a dialogical stance on literacy classrooms engages students and teachers
- instruction, curriculum, assessment, and understanding of children’s lives inform literacy teaching
