Specialist Program - Application Procedures
Questions about the application process should be directed to Ms. Becky Hendren at bhendren@uga.edu
Applicants must submit to the Graduate School
- the proper application form and fee.
- 2 official copies of transcripts from all institutions attended.
- official scores from GRE or MAT. Necessary forms and addresses can be obtained from the Graduate School (http://www.grad.uga.edu/). Please note: The Department of Language and Literacy Education recommends a total verbal plus quantitative GRE score of at least 950 (for GRE tests taken before August 2011) or a score of 295 (for GRE tests taken after August 2011) or an MAT score of 402 but will consider GRE/MAT scores in light of the merits of the entire application package.
Applicants must send to the department
- at least 3 letters of recommendation from people who know the applicant professionally as a scholar, teacher, and/or one who works with adolescents. At least one letter should specifically discuss the applicant’s scholarship.
- statement of purpose (describing experiences working with young people and giving reasons for pursuing graduate study).
- resume/vita.
When all of the application materials have been received, they are sent for review to the Program Area Admissions Committee, which is comprised of faculty members in English Education. The Committee makes a recommendation on the application to the Department’s Graduate Coordinator who in turn makes a recommendation to the Graduate School. The final decision on admission is made by the Graduate School. Applicants and the Department will receive notification directly from the Graduate School concerning a decision on acceptance.
Online applications are available at http://www.grad.uga.edu/admissions/review.html.
REMINDER: Online applicants can now only submit an online form if they pay by credit card or electronic check.
