Masters Programs - M.Ed.
M Ed Degrees (On-Campus)
RWCLDL offers two M Ed degrees: one in Children’s Literature and Language Arts and one in Reading Education. Both offer excellent opportunities for teachers to stay current with practice that reflects the latest research and theory. Students interested in literacy education on The University of Georgia campus have the opportunity to design a master’s degree that meets their learning needs as literacy educators. We have a long and proud history of producing leaders and scholars at the local, state, regional, and national levels. The RWCLDL faculty provides challenging, innovative programs of study to prepare students for responsible positions as teachers, leaders, and classroom inquirers. The faculty is dedicated to rich explorations in areas such as culturally-relevant literacy instruction; children’s literature; early childhood, elementary, and adolescent literacy development; popular culture and digital literacies; reading and writing through technology; family-school partnerships; and critical and dialogical teaching and learning.
Admission Guidelines for Both Degree Programs
Prospective candidates for the M.Ed. in either Children’s Literature and Language Arts or Reading Education must hold a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Among other indicators of academic promise, candidates should also show evidence of the following:

- A Graduate Record Examination (GRE) OR a Miller Analogies Test (MAT): Please note: The Department of Language and Literacy Education recommends a total verbal plus quantitative GRE score of at least 950 (for GRE tests taken before August 2011) or a score of 295 (for GRE tests taken after August 2011) or an MAT score of 402 but will consider GRE/MAT scores in light of the merits of the entire application package.
