Masters Programs - Application Procedures

Prospective candidates for the M.Ed. program must hold a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and be certified to teach English in a secondary school. An applicant’s cumulative grade point for all undergraduate courses must be 3.0 or above on a four-point scale. To apply:

  • complete an application form available from the UGA graduate school arrange for all relevant transcripts to be sent to the graduate school. Please note: you will be required to submit GRE or MAT scores as part of your application to the graduate school. The Department of Language and Literacy Education recommends a total verbal plus quantitative GRE score of at least 900 (for GRE tests taken before August 2011) or a score of 290 (for GRE tests taken after August 2011) or an MAT score of 402 but will consider GRE/MAT scores in light of the merits of the entire application package.
  • As you apply online via Graduate Admissions, you will be asked for 3 email addresses for Recommenders (i.e., letters of recommendation). Admissions will contact the recommenders to submit letters of recommendation online for your application.
  • You also will need to submit a purpose statement describing your background and your reasons for wanting to pursue a MED degree. Please submit a Statement of Purpose via email/resume via email attachment to Becky Hendren, bhendren@uga.edu
