Faculty Research - Lorilee Sandmann

Lorilee R. Sandmann’s current research projects focus on leadership and organizational change in higher education’s institutionalization of community engagement, as well as faculty roles and rewards related to engaged scholarship.  She led a national team of scholars in analyzing the first round of Carnegie Foundation community engagement classified institutions and she recently co-facilitated a Houle Engaged Scholars project that investigated graduate students and their advisors in the development of community-engaged research.  Since it is known that community engagement emerges at the intersection of institutional mission and academic leadership, she, along with James Dubinsky of VA Tech, is following three cohorts of attendees at the Engagement Academy for University Leaders (http://www2.cota.vt.edu/ea) to better understand the conditions and direction of engagement today and the intentional leadership of institutions that are leading the engagement movement.
