About the Programs and the Institute
The Community and Technical College Leadership Initiative (CTCLI) is a focus that is available in three Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) programs in the College of Education. The following is a brief description of each of the two participating departments and the Institute that participate in the CTCLI. This information includes the mission and a summary of the expertise of the faculty members in each unit. Program of Adult Education
The Program's mission is to engage in instruction, research, and outreach activities related to the personal and professional development needs of adults that are best fulfilled through education. Formal adult education activities take place in a variety of institutions and social movements including such settings as: schools and colleges, business and industry, churches, hospitals, and community-based social justice organizations. A variety of research methods are endorsed: historical, quantitative, qualitative, philosophical, and literary approaches. Our faculty members have a wide range of expertise including adult literacy, leadership and administration of adult education programs, continuing education, community colleges, adult learners in higher education, human resource development, informal learning, social movement learning, adult development, women as learners, community development, and multicultural education. Institute of Higher Education
The mission of the Institute of Higher Education is to prepare graduate students for leadership positions in teaching, research, and public service in two-year and four-year colleges and universities and other organizations and agencies involved in postsecondary education. The Institute faculty and staff collaborate with other state and regional agencies and higher education institutions, as well as national and international organizations, to develop specific programs, research, seminars and conferences to meet the pressing needs of constituent faculty, administrators, institutions, and boards. Research and teaching interests of the faculty involved in the CTCLI focus on financial and legal issues in higher education, institutional research, institutional planning, institutional effectiveness and efficiency, development and evaluation of academic programs, student assessment, comparative international higher education, and multiculturalism in higher education. Program of Occupational Studies
The mission of the Program of Occupational Studies is to prepare and develop professional educators and leaders in career and technical education to serve in the public and private sector and to advance the knowledge base of career and technical education, workforce preparation, and professional development through teaching, research, and service. Faculty are committed to program development and are working to create a world-class graduate program in occupational studies. Faculty teaching in the CTCLI bring a variety of strengths and experience including workforce education policy development; administration and leadership in post secondary education; organizational behavior; technology for education and the workplace; and faculty development in career and technical education.
