(If you come to Broad Street you have gone too far.) Turn right at Baxter Street. The bookstores are at the following locations:

    4. East Campus Bookstore (next to Kroger Foods)

All of these bookstores carry new and used books.
  • Most courses have an additional set of readings that have been selected by the instructor. These packets are available at

Bel-Jean Copy-Print Center
163 East Broad Street
Athens
(706) 548-3648

Bel-Jean's is located near the corner of Broad and Baxter Street in downtown Athens. It is located on Broad on the downtown, not the University side, of the street near the monument.

Both the bookstores and Bel-Jean's have extended hours for the first couple of weeks of each semester. Generally, they are opened until 8 pm during this time. However, you may want to call before heading over there.

Scholarly Writing

[Paper presented at AERC 1998]

Teaching Scholarly Writing to Doctoral Students:

Giving Novice Scholars a Running Start

Bruce Barnett, Rosemary Caffarella, Michael Gimmestad

University of Northern Colorado

Abstract: Students entering doctoral programs in adult education and related fields often experience culture shock. Perhaps the biggest adjustment is learning how to think and write like a scholar. This paper examines how involvement by doctoral students in a formal scholarly writing project during their first semester of study influenced their subsequent doctoral experience and professional work.
