Master of Education (M.Ed.) in HROD

Purpose

The Master of Education degree is designed for education majors whose career objectives require preparation for teaching or administration in business and industry, hospital staff development, community development, and organization development. The emphasis of the M.Ed. curriculum is practical because graduates are most often employed in positions with an applied focus. The M.Ed. in Human Resource and Organizational Development (HROD) provides students with an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills focusing on learning within the work environment, career development, organization development, group facilitation, globalization, and workplace educational technology. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of this degree, students are encouraged to take courses from several departments.

Admission Requirements

The faculty considers three factors to decide whether to recommend an applicant for admission:

  1. Undergraduate Grade Point Average.
  2. Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogies Test Score.
  3. Demonstration of interest in an applied career in Human Resource and Organizational Development through an interview with the graduate coordinator and/or the director of the graduate program in Human Resource and Organizational Development.

Coursework

There are four major areas of course work for the M.Ed. in HROD: core courses, HROD electives, research methods, and field experiences. In addition, students must prepare an M.Ed. Student Portfolio and complete a final oral examination. HROD Advisement form in pdf

The HROD program requires individuals to develop an area of emphasis within HROD (either Training and Development or Organization Development).
