Master’s Degree—Applying for Graduation and Completing Graduate School Forms

As a beginning point, the Graduate School has certain deadlines that must be met and forms that must be completed to be eligible to graduate from the University of Georgia.  Please consult http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/academics/deadlines.html to check deadlines for the semester in which graduation is anticipated.

To prepare to graduate, a student must complete two critically important forms typically by the end of the first week of any given semester in which graduation is anticipated.  The following steps will assist you in meeting Graduate School deadlines for filing paperwork.  The Graduate School is the definitive source of information regarding graduate studies at the University of Georgia.  No program area or departmental policies or procedures may supersede those of the Graduate School.

STEP 1: Visit the Graduate School homepage at http://www.grad.uga.edu/

Notes:

  1. To view Graduate School Deadlines visit

http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/academics/deadlines.html

STEP 2: Review the deadline for submitting the Application for Graduation

Notes:

  1. To complete the Application for Graduation, first go to Application for Graduation (Form 14).  This form is to be submitted electronically and can be found at http://www.gradsch.uga.edu:5080/forms/newgradms.htm and this form is also available at http://www.coe.uga.edu/leap/adminpolicy/forms_4_students.html
  2. The INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILING AN APPLICATION FOR GRADUATION can be found at http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/forms&publications/currentstudent_forms.html
  3. We ask that you notify your advisor AND the Degree Program Specialist when you have completed the Application for Graduation.  We need to ensure that your name is placed on a list so that you can be properly scheduled for the oral examination and presentation of the portfolio.  Moreover, we need to ensure that we have your correct home address and email address.
  4. If the deadline for filing the Application for Graduation and/or the Program of Study is missed, the student will need to consult the Policy for Late Filing at http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/forms&publications/late_grad.pdf   There is a $ 50.00 late fee.

STEP 3: Review the deadline for submitting the Program of Study

Notes:
To view Graduate School Deadlines visit http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/academics/deadlines.html

  1. To complete the Program of Study, go to http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/forms&publications/
    currentstudent_forms.html
and then scroll to Program of Study For Non-Doctoral Professional Degrees found at http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/forms&publications/body_prgnonphd.pdf or on the Educational Administration and Policy Homepage at http://www.coe.uga.edu/leap/adminpolicy/forms_4_students.html
  2. Notes about completing the Program of Study can be viewed at http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/forms&publications/
    currentstudent_forms.html
  3. The Program of Study is to be
    1. completed (typed) by the student,
    2. presented to the advisor for approval and signature,
    3. given to the Graduate Coordinator for approval and signature, and
    4. submitted to the advisor two weeks in advance of the Graduate School deadline so that the paperwork may be properly processed

The Program of Studies will be submitted to the Graduate School by the Graduate Coordinator.  To avoid delays, students are asked not to submit the Program of Study form directly to the Graduate School.

Please note that we cannot accept a fax or electronic copy of the Program of Study.  It is strongly suggested that the Program of Study be hand delivered by the student to the assigned advisor.  We also strongly suggest that the Program of Study be submitted to the assigned advisor two weeks prior to the official deadline established by the Graduate School.  This time is needed for us to process the Program of Study and to get the form to the Graduate School.  We cannot guarantee that the Program of Study can be processed and delivered to the Graduate School with less than 72 hours of turn around time.

  1. If the deadline for filing the Program of Study is missed, the student will need to complete the Late Filing for Graduation Form which can be found at http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/forms&publications/late_grad.pdf and pay a $50.00 late fee.
