Educational Administration and Policy

Graduate Handbook

  1. Introduction

Welcome to the Program in Educational Administration and Policy at the University of Georgia.  We have prepared this web-based Student Handbook to be a basic resource in helping you to identify and to complete the requirements for the degrees offered in the Program.  This handbook should be used as a reference to clarify procedures and policies as well as to help you understand your responsibilities along the way.  As additional policies are developed or changed, the Website will be updated.

For students, it is hoped the Student Handbook for the Program in Educational Administration and Policy (EDAP) will be a constant aid in clarifying procedural steps for completing a graduate degree, pointing out relevant information sources, and spelling out current policy information.  The EDAP Student Handbook is designed to be used in conjunction with and as a supplement to other vital publications that every graduate student should obtain and consult regularly such as the current Graduate School Bulletin which is available online at http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/bulletin/

Students are reminded that university policies can and do change.  Such changes can be brought about by the University administration, Graduate School, or within the Program Area by action of the faculty.  When changes occur, the Graduate Coordinator and faculty advisors will do their best to inform students of the changes, and whom are affected by the changes.  It is noted that nothing in this Student Handbook supersedes any existing Graduate School or University of Georgia policies, procedures, or regulations.

Students are encouraged to visit the Program in Educational Administration and Policy Homepage at http://www.coe.uga.edu/adminpolicy/ for additional information.  The Graduate School Homepage http://www.gradsch.uga.edu/ offers a wealth of information (e.g., deadlines for application for graduation) that will assist with movement leading to graduation.  Students are reminded of two important details:

1) students are required to complete electronically their application for graduation and to file their Plan of Studies following the deadlines of the Graduate School and 2) students are responsible for checking their UGA e-mail accounts for important messages from the Graduate School, other university-wide offices, and the Program in Educational Administration and Policy faculty.

Throughout your studies at the University of Georgia, please bear in mind this statement from the Graduate School Bulletin:

It is the responsibility of graduate students to familiarize themselves with the general requirements of the Graduate School and with the specific requirements of the particular disciplines in which they are working.

The faculty and staff in the Program in Educational Administration and Policy will be pleased to hear recommendations regarding the Student Handbook so that we may improve its utility in subsequent editions.
