EDAP 8801, EDAP 8802, EDAP 8803—Practicum *

General Description and Overview **

EDAP 8801 through EDAP 8803, the Practicum, provides an opportunity to consider, evaluate, and implement theories of leadership and educational administration and policy in both school and central office settings. Students apply concepts learned in educational administration and policy courses to school and central office leadership activities.

Specific objectives for EDAP 8800—8803 are to provide students with opportunities to

Observe and participate in a variety of diverse activities expected of highly trained educational leaders.

Shadow and work closely with a practicing administrator in a PreK-12 school AND at the central office level.
Experience administrative assignments not previously assumed in their careers.
Develop administrative skills necessary to the successful practice of educational administration and policy.
Connect theory and research by applying theory and research to the work of administration and leadership.
Reflect on the meanings of the work and experience of educational administration and policy.
Refine a platform for educational administration and policy.

For students enrolled in the Educational Specialists’ Programs, EDAP 8801 through EDAP 8803 are offered fall, spring, and summer semesters. In each semester of enrollment, students engage in 75 hours of field experiences that complement and extend course materials and activities. The goals and objectives of EDAP 8801—8803 align with the ELCC Standards for Administrator Preparation. Students are required to develop a portfolio in which artifacts representing activities sustained during the experiences are presented to the professor of record at the conclusion of each semester of enrollment.

EDAP 8801—EDAP 8803 typically are offered at the Georgia Gwinnett College. To receive credit for EDAP 8801, EDAP 8802, and EDAP 8803, it is an expectation that students will be present for each course meeting throughout the three semesters of enrollment.

Course meetings are typically held three times during each semester of enrollment, meeting on Saturdays from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Class meeting dates and times are usually available at the time of registration. It is an expectation that students will be present for each course meeting.

* Beginning in 2007, the course number for EDAP 8800 will change to EDAP 8801, EDAP 8802, and EDAP 8803 to reflect more directly the differences in the first, second, and third hour segments related to course content. For students beginning their programs of study prior to summer 2007, two hours of EDAP 8800 are needed. Advisement will dictate whether students enroll in EDAP 8801 (first hour), EDAP 8802 (second hour), or EDAP 8803 (third hour).

** During the first course meeting, students will receive a packet detailing all course expectations and requirements.
