Academic Programs - Educational Administration and Policy

Master’s Degree (M.Ed.) in Educational Administration and Policy

The M.Ed. in the Program in Educational Administration and Policy requires a minimum of 36 semester hours of coursework, and is intended as a flexible program of study that will prepare students for a wide variety of careers in leadership, policy, and related fields.  This degree may also serve as a gateway for further study, such as doctoral work in educational administration and policy, or for law school or other academic or professional degrees.

In cooperation with a selected advisor, students construct a program of study that will allow for specialization in leadership, policy, or another appropriate area of academic focus relevant to individual academic interests, educational needs, and professional goals.

Applied Project: The masters’ portfolio and oral exam should be based on a culminating applied project.  In many cases, this could be a presentation from a practice-based internship (e.g., a setting-specific problem of practice or a policy/legal analysis project).  Students are encouraged to identify an area of focus as early as practicable in the program of study and to make the culminating project a focus throughout the program of study.  This culminating project also serves as a professional portfolio for potential employers and/or further graduate study.
