The Master of Education degree is designed for adult education majors whose career objectives require preparation for teaching or administration in such areas as adult basic education, continuing education, cooperative extension, training in business and industry, post-secondary adult education, health education, community development, military education, gerontology, mass media, program development, and religious education. The emphasis of the M.Ed. curriculum is practical because graduates are most often employed in positions with an applied focus. An important feature of the program is its flexibility in allowing the student to build an individual program of study relevant to her or his career aspirations.
The requirements for the degree of Master of Education are met by the completion of an approved program of a minimum of 33 semester hours of graduate course work. There are five major areas of course work in the M.Ed. program: adult education core, adult education electives, technology, other electives, and research. Each area is described in greater detail below. In addition, students must complete an applied project, prepare an M.Ed. Student Portfolio, and complete a final oral examination.
