Academic Programs - Adult Education, Learning and Organization Development Program
Curriculum
The curriculum is centered on seven themes that are integrated to foster the capability necessary for advanced practice in Adult Education or HROD. These are:
- Leadership—Learners develop their capacity to lead in increasingly complex systems.
- Adult Learning—Learners focus on learning at the individual, group, and system levels and the systems that support education and learning.
- Change—Learners focus on facilitating and championing change in organizations and fostering the systems that support change.
- Organization Development—Learners enhance their ability to explore and intervene on organization opportunities and challenges.
- Developing the Scholar Practitioner-Learners learn to utilize theoretically-grounded knowledge and skills and also improve their capacity to contribute to the knowledgebase of the field(s) to bridge theory and practice.
- Action Research—Learners engage in applied research in their own organizations and communities. This model guides the design of the curriculum, including key milestones such as the comprehensive exams and the dissertation. These experiences emphasize skills related to helping leaners address “real-life” challenges and contribute to both enhancing practice and advancing the knowledgebase.
- Specializations—Learners deepen their subject-matter expertise by selecting a focus area in either human resources and organization development or adult education.
