About Lifelong Education, Administration, and Policy

This department’s faculty challenge and engage students in rigorous and relevant graduate education programs of intellectual inquiry, research and practice. Its programs encourage students to explore their commitments and acquire expertise about a variety of issues facing educational leaders, policy analysts and researchers within the United States and internationally. Its programs prepare leaders who create educational knowledge, policy, systems and strategies to improve the quality of life of individuals, organizations and the communities in which they live.

Known for pioneering work locally, nationally and internationally, the Department of Lifelong Education, Administration, and Policy includes three program areas:

Five Adult Education faculty are members of the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame. The Educational Administration and Policy program was created in response to the changing landscape of educational leadership preparation, school reform, and educational policy-making. The Qualitative Research Program hosts the annual International QUIG Conference.

Department faculty have gained national and international recognition through numerous contributions in research and policy development. These scholarly contributions continue to positively influence educational systems throughout the state and nation. Research interests among the department’s faculty include action learning, school infrastructures, multicultural perspectives in adult education, educational law, gender inequity, administration in adult education, school improvement, human resource and organizational development, the superintendency, curriculum history, theory and reform, instructional supervision, professional development of K-12 teachers and administrators, and qualitative research methods.
