The KSAP undergraduate course (ANTH 2100) is intended to meet the equivalence of the on-campus 3 credit Introduction to Africa course. Enrollment in the KSAP course will officially begin at the time a student registers for the program, but work begins as early as the first orientation meeting and extends until the end of December 2003 if a student needs additional time to complete course requirements. Students will be given an incomplete grade until all course requirements, assessments, and feedback have been completed.
Course Requirements.
- Attend at least two orientation meetings (one with faculty, parents, and students, one with students, and another of students' choosing in consultation with either of the two KSAP Directors).
- Attend all events and lectures included in the program agenda.
- Preparatory Textbook: Gordan, A. & Gordan, D. (2002). Understanding Contemporary Africa. Boulder: Reinner Publishing. (Required textbook for ANTH 2100).
- In addition, journal research articles will be provided. A great www site for Africa, both general and Kenya specific for culture, music (live via Spinner Lite), Kiswahili, maps, etc. is Available: http://www.newafrica.com/
- Additional Textbooks will be purchased at the Nairobi Textbook Centre.
- Assigned Readings & Listening: World Wide Web
- Kenya's history (including anthropology).

- Kenya's runners.
- A home-stay with a family in Kenya.

Grade |
| To earn a 3-credit grade for the ANTH 2100 course, students will be required to: |

| a) Pre-departure narrative due April 15, 2002. An essay describing how you found out about the KSAP program and what your expectations are for the program. |

| b) Maintain a reflective daily journal of your educational safari beginning with your preparation and extending to the time of your arrival home. |

| c) Regular reflective discussions in Kenya as required or needed. |

| d) Two in-country "open book" examinations (each 10% towards total grade). |

| e) Write a >=15 page formal referenced paper in accordance with identified UGA-Moi University faculty member's expectations. This paper will include integration of all KSAP experiences: lectures, events, etc. |
