Safety:
The Office of International Education has information http://www.uga.edu/oie/forms.htm for students planning to study abroad in the Passport Orientation packet and a good amount of information has already been described concerning health, food, communication, and clothing. However, it is advisable to do things in at least pairs, let others know of your directions and intents, and be aware of your environment. Kenyans are overwhelmingly friendly and courteous (much more than are Americans) and treat you as family. However, a few are not. While we are in Nairobi and, even in the country side, we make sure that there is always someone nearby who is associated with the program, knows the local language, and knows what is in your best interest and safety. The bottom line is that the University of Georgia, your KSAP directors, and your hosts in Kenya want you to have the journey of your lifetime in safety. |
