Ramsey Center

  • The mammoth $40 million Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities is the nation’s largest on-campus facility for recreation and fitness. Sports Illustrated cited the center as the best student recreational center in the country in a 1997 issue.
  • Available for students, faculty, and staff, the Recreational Sports part of the facility also houses Georgia’s swimming and diving and volleyball programs, and includes practice facilities for the gymnastics team.
  • In the 350,000 square feet of the Recreational Sports part of the building are four basketball gyms, 10 racquetball and two squash courts, a recreational lap pool, a 1/8 mile track, a 40′ high climbing alcove, locker rooms, gymnastics gym, multipurpose and martial arts rooms, natatorium with 117,140-gallon instructional pool, Olympic-size competition pool with a 10-meter diving platform, 10,000-square-foot weight room, 1,800-seat volleyball arena convertible into a 2,400 seat auditorium.
  • The North wing of the Ramsey Center, adjacent to the Recreational Sports, is 50,000 square feet of academic space on three floors that houses the Department of Kinesiology and part of the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services in the College of Education, and the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior in the College of Public Health.
  • The facilities of the Department of Kinesiology include 10 laboratories, a Fitness Center, a computer lab, offices, conference rooms and classrooms.
