Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation

ARCS Foundation Scholarships

The Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation, Inc. is a national volunteer women’s organization dedicated to helping the best and brightest U.S. graduate and undergraduate students by providing scholarships in the natural sciences, medicine and engineering. The Foundation was formed in 1958 out of concern for U.S. advancement in the sciences. ARCS has grown to 14 national chapters and its volunteer members have raised more than $53 million and have granted about 10,500 scholarships. With support of the Atlanta chapter of the ARCS Foundation, the UGA Office of the Provost submitted materials in spring 2000 on behalf of the University of Georgia Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute, to the ARCS national organization to become a nominating institution for ARCS Foundation Scholars. Approval was granted by the national body. Men and women can receive the rewards. In the past, up to six students have been nominated for funding in a year. These awards, in the amount of $2,500 semester per student, are made during for the next academic year as supplements to any assistantship from the University. Recipients of ARCS Foundation Scholarships, who maintain their academic standing, are funded through the completion of their doctoral degrees. Please note that mentors must nominate students and submit applications to the BHSI. Nominations are due in mid June.
