Undergraduate Degree Programs

Joint Major
B.S.Ed. in Sport Studies
A.B.J. in Magazine, Newspapers, or Publication Management

Sport and journalism have been partners for decades connecting in the daily sport section, in sport magazines and sport information offices. Sport journalism includes the play-by-play, the business of sport, the place of sport in society, coaching, physical education, ethics and many other subjects taught in UGA's Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies. Sports writers and information officers need skills in gathering, analyzing and disseminating news and information.

The Department of Journalism and the Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies propose a joint major to allow students in journalism to learn the business, management and ethos of sport and for sport studies majors to learn the professional skills and values of journalism. A joint sports-journalism major will serve the academic and career goals of both majors as well as the university goal of interdisciplinary curricula.

Admission

Students wishing to declare the joint major will apply to both the Journalism major and the Sport Studies major. After being accepted by both departments, students may be admitted to the joint major.
