Sport Studies ProgramsDescription of the Program The M.A., Ed.D. and Ph.D. programs in sport studies are designed to provide the candidate with an interdisciplinary study of sport. The M.A. in sport studies will qualify candidates to continue their research agenda in a sport studies doctoral program. There are also opportunities for qualified candidates to gain employment in non-traditional sport settings: private and community-based sport programs, or academic support units for athletics. The Ed.D. and Ph.D. programs degrees serve those who aspire to become teacher educators and researchers in sport studies. Requirements for the M.A. in Sport Studies Requirements for the Ed.D. and Ph.D. in Sport Studies Entrance Requirements: Applicants with a baccalaureate degree in any field of study are eligible to apply to the M.Ed. program in sport mangement. Applications should be received by February 1 to be considered for admission and assistantships in the Fall. To be considered for admission, applicants must complete an application for graduate study, submit transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended, submit scores on the GRE (GRE or GMAT for sport management), provide three letters of recommendation, and complete a department questionnaire. Assistantships: Graduate teaching assistantships are available in the Department of Kinesiology. Duties involve the teaching of activity courses in the required physical education activity program. Other assistantship opportunities are available in the Department of Recreational Sports and with the UGA Athletic Association.
