Sport Management & Sport Studies Conferences

Students are encouraged to register early for conferences they wish to attend as many conferences offer early-registration rates.   Please note that many conferences also have deadlines and do not allow for late registration.   Hence, plan your travels early.

Some of the listed conferences are more geared for those currently working in sport management, while others are geared for those within the academics of sport management.   Be sure to click on the conference to visit their link for more details.   If your goal is to present or publish research, the academic conferences are for you.   For networking and educational seminars that can be applied in the workplace, it would be wiser to attend the sport business-oriented conferences.

University of Memphis

The "Sport and Culture in the Global Marketplace" study abroad program will be delivered during the Summer 2005 Full Summer session (June 6th -August 11th, 2005). The program is intended to provide those advanced undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in international business, popular culture, sport and tourism, with first hand experience in, and a thorough understanding of, the rapidly expanding global sport marketplace. Students are provided a comprehensive orientation to traveling and living overseas, together with an extensive theoretical grounding for such academic study, prior to their departure. This will be the fifth such study abroad program offered by the department in the last five years and the fourth in London.

The two week study abroad component (July 10th - July 23rd, 2005) will be preceded by web delivery of readings, preparatory assignments and online discussion groups. The study abroad program will be based at The University of Surrey, Roehampton, in southwest London, and will include:

(a) formal lectures delivered by the primary and secondary trip leaders as well as prominent guest scholars from European universities;

(b) lectures from leading global sport executives along with daily field visits to multinational sporting enterprises (e.g., F.A. Premier League, Wimbledon, Sky Sports, Coca-Cola, UK Sport, and Lords Cricket Ground) for "behind the scenes" tours;

(c) small group/individual tutorials. Following the conclusion of the London-based program, students will be expected to complete culminating assignments.
