Alumnus Gordon Warren (Ph.D., 1989) received the Henry J. Montoye Scholar Award at the Southeast Chapter Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine on February 10, 2012.

Dr.  Warren is a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Georgia State University, where he has been on the faculty since 1998. His research focus over the last 20 years has  been on the molecular- and cellular-level mechanisms contributing to muscle strength impairments resulting from eccentric-contraction induced muscle injury, estrogen deficiency, aging, muscular dystrophy, fatigue and spinal cord injury, and how the inflammatory response modulates the recovery of strength from injury.  His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, the Department of Defense, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  His publications have been cited over 2500 times in the scientific literature.
