Exercise Science

Pre-Graduate Study in Exercise and Sport Psychology

experimental psychologyThis program option is designed to provide a firm foundation for subsequent graduate study in exercise and sport psychology. Individuals with careers in the area of exercise and sport psychology generally either conduct research, teach or work with athletes as clinical or counseling psychologists. Since these positions are highly specialized and competitive, employers usually require an advanced degree such as a master's or doctorate.

Exercise and sport psychologists need rigorous training in both exercise science and psychology. Consequently, the program requires students to master fundamental concepts in both exercise science and psychology. This goal is achieved through course work in the Exercise Science Core along with Experimental Psychology, Psychology of Sensation and Perception, Physiological and Comparative Psychology, Measurement and Individual Differences in Psychology, and History of Psychology. No practicum or internship experience is required.
