Cognition and Skill Acquisition LaboratoryThe Cognition and Skill Acquisition Laboratory is designed to conduct theory-based research that systematically examines the effects of physical activity on cognitive function. The laboratory is equipped with systems for measuring both physiological function and psychological performance. These systems include four computer work stations, SuperLab Pro software that is used to create cognitive tests, Schuhfried psychophysical recording modules, BioPac demonstration and research platforms, a Lode Corval Ergometer, and a Parvomedics Metabolic Measurement System. Studies are conducted that assess the effects of acute bouts of exercise on information processing speed, decision making and problem solving, and attentional processes. Presently, age-related differences in cognitions are of particular interest. Research is conducted in collaboration with the Gerontology Center at the University of Georgia and with the Georgia Prevention Institute at the Medical College of Georgia. |
