Fitness Specialist:

Adult Fitness, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Corporate Fitness

fitness centerThis program option is designed to provide the knowledge base and practical experience necessary to enter the fitness profession. The curriculum was constructed to meet the learning objectives for the American College of Sports Medicine's Health and Fitness Tract certification as Exercise Leader, Health Fitness Instructor and Health Director. After taking the University and ESS Core course work, the Fitness Specialist would take courses such as fitness programs, health promotion and nutrition, followed by practicum and internship experiences.

The internship experience is very important for students electing this program option, and can be taken in hospital cardiac rehabilitation or wellness facilities, corporate and commercial fitness facilities. Interns are placed in Georgia and neighboring states in such facilities as Emory Health Enhancement, Coke Health Management Program, AT&T Live for Life and Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Interns have served at other sites in New York, California, Florida and the Carolinas.
