Undergraduate Athletic Training Education ProgramCLINICAL EDUCATION Athletic Training Students at UGA gain clinical experience in a multitude of employment settings. Students acquire clinical skill and knowledge through direct interaction with certified athletic trainers and medical and allied medical health care providers. Each clinical experience is also part of a class (KINS 3910, 3920, 4910, 4920) with assigned competencies and proficiencies. Students may obtain supervised clinical experience with University of Georgia Sports, local sports medicine clinics, physician's offices and local high schools. Students will gain experiences with equipment intensive sports (football), upper and lower extremity sports, general medical clinical experience and activities that emphasize therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation techniques. The opportunity to observe surgery, participate in athlete rehabilitation and in cutting edge sports medicine research is also provided. There may be some costs incurred by the student related to clinical activity. The ATEP supports student-athletes who are enrolled in the ATEP curriculum. Student-athletes will participate in their clinical experience during the non-competitive season. A 5th year may be required to fulfill all the academic and clinical requirements of the athletic training program. Close cooperation between the student-athlete, ATEP Program Director and Coach is necessary to plan the appropriate educational experience. |
