Neuromuscular Physiology Laboratory Facilities

The Neuromuscular Physiology Laboratory is located in the Department of Kinesiology in the Ramsey Center within the College of Education and is comprised of 1) the exercise testing laboratory, 2) bone density analysis laboratory and 3) biochemistry laboratory. Our research is also conducted at an affiliated campus location that houses a 3Tesla whole body magnet used for the non-invasive study of energy metabolism in skeletal muscle.

Exercise Laboratory

The Exercise Laboratory contains equipment for fitness testing and exercise training in both healthy and clinical populations.

  • Resistance training equipment
  • Cycle ergometer
  • GAITrite (mobility assessment)
  • Electromyography
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Automated blood pressure

Bone Density

The Bone Density analysis laboratory contains a state-of-the art General Electric Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (iDEXA) scanner for the determination of bone mineral density, lean and fat mass.  The scanner is used to study regional and whole-body skeletal adaptations following exercise or nutritional interventions.

Biochemistry Laboratory

The biochemistry laboratory contains equipment to perform biochemical analyses of blood samples.
