Dr. Elaine Cress, professor emeritus in the Department of Kinesiology,
won the 2010 Fred Birchmore Award for Active Aging, which was presented
Aug. 10 as part of the annual Athens Active Aging Connection event held
at the Athens Community Council on Aging. The Birchmore award honors an
Athens-area resident who practices the principles of active aging and
inspires others to be physically and socially active after age 50. She
has taught the “Strength Training for Older Adults” course for the Osher
Lifelong Learning Institute.
