Exercise Science Programs
The Department of Kinesiology offers undergraduate and graduate programs in exercise science that apply knowledge, principles and methods from the behavioral, biological, medical, physical sciences to the study of physical activity and sport. The undergraduate major in exercise and sport science provides students a foundation in the scientific basis of physical activity, exercise and sport. The major prepares students for a variety of possible careers in allied health occupations, fitness and sport enterprises, sport science and coaching, or business and industry. The undergraduate major in athletic training prepares nationally-certified athletic training professionals who obtain positions in educational institutions or a variety of health care settings, including sports medicine centers and hospitals. Kinesiology professional master’s graduate program specializations in athletic training, clinical exercise physiology and strength, conditioning and fitness provide advanced training in specialized areas of kinesiology for students who do not plan to conduct research as part of their career and do not plan to continue for a Ph.D. The M.S. and Ph.D. program specializations in athletic training, biomechanics, exercise psychology and exercise physiology are advanced research programs designed for students who plan careers involving research in colleges and universities, government, the military or business and industry.
