The Innovative University illustrates how higher education can respond to the forces of disruptive innovation , and offers a nuanced and hopeful analysis of where the traditional university and its traditions have come from and how it needs to change for the future. Through an examination of Harvard and BYU-Idaho as well as other stories of innovation in higher education, Clayton Christensen and Henry Eyring decipher how universities can find innovative, less costly ways of performing their uniquely valuable functions

The Innovation in Teaching & Technology Book Club begins in November 2011 with the first book selection, Sherry Turkle’s Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology and Less from Each Other, (2011, Basic Books). Leaders for this Book Club selection are Dr. Janette Hill and Dr. Lloyd Rieber.
Alone Together explores the power of our new tools and toys to dramatically alter our social lives. It’s a nuanced exploration of what we are looking for—and sacrificing—in a world of electronic companions and social networking tools, and an argument that, despite the hand-waving of today’s self-described prophets of the future, it will be the next generation who will chart the path between isolation and connectivity.
