Report from the Training and Development Committee
Judy James - jjames@uga.edu

In order to address issues related to IT training, the committee thought it vital to support the new IT Job Matrix/Model. The committee worked on the following during their first meeting:
  • The team initiated the development of a correlation to the matrix that includes resources and suggested training for each of the job families. Committee members took 3-4 job families in order to begin a list. The data will be compiled on a website. The target for submission of the resource list is Monday, Oct. 18.
  • The committee will begin the development of core competencies for each job family and align training to acquire competencies for each level on the IT Matrix.
  • The committee discussed concerns or barriers to effective IT training
    • Lack of standards
    • Lack of centralized budgets for training
    • A need for more collaborative training by experienced UGA IT staff -- supervisors would need to allow IT staff to train as well as see the benefit of collaboration.
  • The committee planned a communication strategy.
    • Information will be shared through ITMF, UGANet, DWEEBS and others to foster ownership, receive the best information to include in the model.

The next meeting will be on Monday, Oct. 18 @ 1pm at the Training Center to review compilation lists and begin other action items. Please contact Judy James, jjames@uga.edu if you would like to work with this team or contribute information.
